LEGION OF THE BLACK

Mackenzie woke to bright light streaming in through the ragged curtains that covered the entrance to her small silo, one of the many on the camp/base or whatever it was called. She stretched, yawned, crawled out of her silo and stood up, brushing the dirt off her clothes, which consisted of a plain black top and leggings which had several holes in but that was no different than anyone else. She shook her blonde curly hair and allowed the morning breeze to try and wake her for the new day. Another day fighting F.E.A.R. and another day to survive, not that she’d ever been in a life threatening situation yet, but there would be one day when that time would come, but one thing was for sure, she was not afraid to die.

She was a Wild One, a rebel, fighting for freedom against the cruelness and darkness that F.E.A.R. brought. But one day things would change, they would be rid of F.E.A.R. and they would be free. Smiling at that thought, she made her way over to the centre area where several others were awake and going about their daily tasks. She spotted her best friend Josh sat outside his silo already at work on more weapons. She made her way over to him, others giving morning greetings to her as she passed them.

“Hey Josh,” she smiled when she reached him, “Working already?” Josh nodded, “Yep, these need to be done ASAP.” Mackenzie nodded in agreement, “Never know when we might need them. Any of the Legion awake yet?”

The Legion of the Black were the five in charge around here, The Wild Ones were the Legion’s followers one might say.

Josh nodded again, “Yeah Andy’s gone out looking for Chloe and I saw CC walking around about 10 minutes ago.”

At the mention of Andy, Mackenzie’s stomach churned and did a back flip. Andrew Biersack, the Prophet and the one in charge of everyone around here, including the other four of the Legion of the Black. Ever since Andy had rescued her from imprisonment in one of the many F.E.A.R. prison bases she’d been madly in love with him, she did owe him her life after all. Anytime someone mentioned his name or he was in her sight she had to try so hard to stop herself from going giddy or worse looking like a love struck puppy. But what was the use that was the past, Andy probably wasn’t even aware of her existence, to him, she was just one of the Wild Ones and nothing more. Trying to brush Andy from her mind she focused on what else Josh had said.

“So Chloe still hasn’t returned?” “Nope, it’s been four days now, Andy gone now to look for her but if he doesn’t find her and she hasn’t returned by tomorrow were going out in search parties to look for her.” Mackenzie nodded, “Sounds reasonable, I hope she’s ok.”

“Don’t we all?”

Mackenzie jumped; Christian Coma aka CC and the Destroyer was stood behind her.

“Sorry, did I startle you?”

“Yes, please don’t do it again.”

CC chuckled “I’ll try. Josh how are them Skull and Chains coming along?” “Pretty good actually but I’m getting low on Skulls, gonna need some more soon.” CC nodded, “Don’t worry; I’m sure someone will be willing to go out and collect some.”

Before Josh could reply, a cry came from the watch tower nearby. The girl inside it poked her head down and yelled, “Andy’s back! Andy’s back!” Mackenzie bit her lip anxiously as did Josh and they both looked at CC who raised an eyebrow. The girl in the tower’s voice rang out again, “He’s got a body in his arms!”

CC cleared his throat and in the loudest voice he could muster yelled, “Everyone to the centre area now!!” In the next moment about 40 boys and girls came out from all directions along with three guys dressed, like CC, in leather. Leather was what the five of the Legion wore. Everyone’s heads turned as the main gates opened and Andy walked through them, carrying a body in his arms. Whispers broke out, everyone fearing the worst.

Unfortunately, their worst fears were confirmed when Andy reached CC and the others, Ashley Purdy the Deviant, Jeremy Ferguson aka Jinxx the Mystic and Jake Pitts the Mourner who were now stood with CC, the body was female and it was that of Chloe the missing girl. Andy laid her body on the floor and crouched beside it. Being Andy’s best friend, Ashley came and stood next to him and placed and hand on his shoulder. “Is she dead?”

Andy looked at Ashley and nodded, “Sadly, yes. She was when I found her so there was nothing I could do.”

“This was F.E.A.R. right?” Josh spoke a little unsurely.

Andy looked at Josh and nodded, “More than likely, there’s no one else in this desert besides us and them.” “As far as we know anyway” added Jinxx.

“What do we do now Andy?” Ashley asked “Get revenge?”

Andy stood up from crouching and shook his head, “No because that would result in fighting and I don’t want to go into battle yet, we’re nowhere near ready for that.” His gaze moved for a moment to meet Mackenzie’s. She blushed a little and smiled and to her surprise he smiled back.

“For now carry on with what you were doing. Ashley, CC get shovels and dig a hole. At sundown we burn and bury her.”
