The Saved and the Damned

Missing Heaven

Sydney POV

Everything was so bright. Not as bright as heaven but if I wasn’t already used to the light it would almost hurt my eyes. Loud music came from every corner. A new corner a new sound. Andy had introduced me to all of the members in his band and so far I knew I was going to like staying here. They all had such personalities. Although one of them would continue to touch me and say things like, ‘if I had a dime for every time I think about you naked I would have three dollars.’ I didn’t know what to think of it so I just gave weak smiles as the rest of his band mates hit him.

The one I remembered as Ashley ran up to a building with flashing lights coming out of the entrance and several people lined up outside. There was a man at the front letting people in and Ashley ran up to him and the man let him in before anyone else and we all followed.
“Ashley comes here a lot.” Andy said to me putting his hand on my lower back leading me into the building.

“You won’t be let down little Australia!” The hyper one said running into the buildings with both hands in the air.

The music was already loud and I wasn’t fully in the building yet. I felt my ears begin to clog up and everything except the music was drowned out. I smiled when they boys looked back at me but I already hated it. It was loud repetitive music. Women wearing barley anything were basically having intercourse in front of everyone else. I felt disgusted. Ashley seemed to be having fun. He already had three girls dancing on him. The hyper one was at the bar downing a bottle of something. The more mature ones were at the bar also but drinking like old ladies. Andy was hell bent on making me dance. I agreed for a while and while it lasted it was fun. I realized neither of us could dance and I fell onto a chair. HE flowed suit in the chair beside me.

“You’re almost as bad as dancing as I am.” Andy laughed.

“Not quite there yet though.” I smiled.

Andy made a laugh and I tried to back away from a girl who was dancing way to close for comfort. I tried to get up without touching her and stood by Andy’s chair. While the song was taking seconds to change I noticed that my ears were ringing. That wouldn’t have been good.
“It’s really loud.” I yelled over the music.

Andy looked at me for a while then stood up and took my hand. He led me out of the building and down the street. “This is my favorite park.” Andy said letting go of my hand finally and sitting on a rock by a little water fountain.

“Why is that?” I asked sitting next to him.

“’Cause I dumped a bitch here.” He smiled.

“Really?” I asked curious.

“No,” he chuckled, “I like the fountain. I like that no one really comes here. I like that I can come here and it’s…peace. Good for writing music.” He smirked.

“What makes you write the music you do?” I asked referring to the Fallen Angels song.
“Music is my life. And I feel that if no one speaks for the little guy then no one will care. So I write. If you’re referring to rock music that is a whole other story.” He laughed.

I looked at my hands and I felt no part of Heaven with me. This was a new feeling. I still felt holy but Heaven wasn’t with me. How must Andy feel? Does he feel evil? Or does he feel Hell? Or does he feel…human? I turned to see that he was looking at me. We made quick eye contact then he moved his stare to his hands.

“I don’t know much about music. I’ve been sheltered most of my life.” That was an understatement.

“I might have to change that?” Andy looked back to me and smirked.

I just smiled then took a deep breath and looked at the street in front of me. Not like Heaven at all. “Do you like your life?”

“Hell yeah I do! I really couldn’t have asked for anything better.” He said.

How could I send someone away from what they love? How could God want this? But I had to do it. I just had to get close enough to him. Figure out how to get him to come back to Heaven with me…or damn him to hell, again. I turned my head to face him again and he was glancing down at his phone. His eyes, so blue. His hair, so…perfect. His skin, so soft. I didn’t need an Arch Angel to tell me that he was an Angel once.

It was my turn to get caught staring but I didn’t look away. “What do you use for your skin?” I laughed.

He laughed, “it just happens. It’s natural. Good genes I guess.”

“I’ll have to fall into a volcano before I believe that.” I said.

All he did was laugh. His phone lit up and he swiped it. “Hey man what’s up?” He answered. I could hear mumbled voices through the phone. “Oh cool…nope…alright be there soon.” He hung up and put his phone back in his pocket. “Turns out the tour is on hold and we’re here for the next week or so.” Andy said like he was happy about that.

“Is that a good thing?” I asked.

He took some time to answer. “Yes.” Was all he said before standing. “Do you live close?”

“Uhm…” I didn’t live anywhere.

What was I going to say? ‘No, but I was wondering if I could stay with you?’ No way. What was I thinking? I tried to look for an answer around me and saw a little hotel across the street. I pointed and Andy turned to see it.

“Oh, how convenient.” Andy chuckle. I stood up with him. “Would it be okay if I got your number?”

“Oh, uhm I don’t have a phone.” I gave a sorry look.

“That’s okay, I understand.” He laughed. “Need money for all those concerts and hotel no more money for a phone.” He smirked.

“Something like that.” I giggled.

“Goodnight, Sydney.” He said then walked toward the way we came.

I brought my bottom lip into my mouth and walked across the street to the hotel. I walked into the hotel and asked the man on the other side of the counter for a room. “That’ll be 50 30.” He said.

“Money?”

“Uhm, yes?” He man asked.

Well duh, “I don’t have any.” I confessed.

“Then you don’t get a room.” He said and was about to call the woman behind me when I put my hand on his.

“I really need a room. Just for the week. Please I’ll pay you back at the end of the week.” I let him feel my energy and his eyes fluttered.

“Of course,” he reached down and handed me a key. “Room 203.”

I smiled at him and walked to the room he gave me. I unlocked the door and fell onto the bed. I was exhausted. IT had been a while since…no, I’ve never felt this tired. I don’t even remember actually sleeping before. I know Angels do it but I don’t remember doing it. I pushed the thought aside and sunk into the sheets after tossing off my boots and pants. Along with the button up shirt. I crawled under the covers and looked up at the ceiling. I wondered if Daemyn could see me. As watcher Angels we could see every human. We could watch one human for their whole lives. Or we could watch over many. Was he watching me right now? Did he even know I was on Earth?

“Daemyn?” I said out loud not expecting a response. I sighed after a long silence. “Earth is so different than what I thought it would be. The people are…people.” I giggled. “But Andy, he’s no Fallen Angel I’ve ever met. He doesn’t remember any of his past. Not Heaven or Hell. Although I’ve never met one that was on Earth before.” I felt sadness wash over me. “I miss Heaven, Daemyn. I miss the clarity I felt. I miss not needing to pay for rest. I miss you. I wish you could come down here and enjoy Earth with me.” I rolled over onto my side. “I miss my wings too.”
