Land Of The Lost

Lynx Pov:

I was extremely on edge the entire time we were walking back towards the town. I was constantly looking behind us, expecting to see someone every time. ‘Great, I’m going fucking insane. There’s absolutely nothing out here.’

“Lynx, what are you trying to find behind us?” Ash actually stopped walking and faced me, waiting for an answer.

“I…I just feel like we’re being watched. It’s kinda creepy.”

“You were on your own for two weeks; it’s natural to feel like this after all of that.”

“I guess.” I glanced behind us again before shaking my head. “Let’s just go…” Without waiting for them to agree, I started walking back to town ahead of them. Maybe Ash was right. Maybe I was just being overly paranoid, yet I couldn’t help but trust my instincts that someone or something was following us and whatever it was, was a threat.

The closer to town we got, the more the feeling increased. I think Ash and Jinxx could tell that I was getting more and more anxious, because Jinxx pulled me back so I was at his side while Ash kept one hand on the hilt of his sword, ready to draw it at any moment. “Do you have any idea how much longer it’ll be Ash?”

“Maybe another hour or so until we’ll see the walls, but we’ll probably get there at nightfall.”

“I really don’t want to spend another night out here.”

“I’m actually curious how you survived at all.” I glared at Jinxx and he laughed. "Sorry, but you’re hopeless on your own.”

“Wow, you really have a lot of faith in me don’t ya? I do know how to make simple snares, so I was able to have food. Though I wish I had my blades, things would have been a bit easier.”

“You can get them back once we get home. I think CC has them right now.”

“Kitten, you know the guys are probably out here looking for you. Just imagine their reactions when we show up with you.”

“I’m sure that CC will be ecstatic since his training buddy will be back. And Jake will just be his stoic self.”

“You know Jake isn’t always like that. Seriously, since we got the other members of the legion from the prison he’s been better.”

“Jinxx, Jake is a bit depressing to be around and you know it.”

“He fucking brings the souls of the ones who died to the gates of the underworld, of course he’s going to be a little more depressing to be around than others.”

“Guys, stop making fun of Jake. It’s not his fault.” Ash scolded us, but he knew I was right.

About an hour passed before we could see the town in the distance. ‘About fucking time.’ I was so sick of being actually in the desert, it wasn’t even funny. I have no idea how the nomads do it, it’s just so exhausting. It wasn’t long after the town came into view that I got extremely dizzy and just sat down, got giving the guys any warning.

“You alright kitten?” Ash asked as he knelt next to me. I didn’t answer him, and just put my head between my knees.“Lynnette, are you alright?”

I nodded but didn’t move. “It’s probably heat exhaustion, I’ll be fine.” I didn’t object when Jinxx sat next to me and move me so I was laying down, my head on his lap.

“She doesn’t look too good Ash. Do you have any water left?”

“A bit.” He took his canteen off his belt and handed it to me. I took the canteen and drank a little before handing it back. “We’re so close to getting you home and you go and get sick on us. How does that make sense?”

“So sue me.” Jinxx ran his hand through my hair, in an attempt to make me feel better.

“Ash leave her alone.”

“Never, she brought this upon herself when she demanded to be a part of the legion.”

“And you say I’m childish Ash. You fucking hypocrite.” Deciding I was feeling a little better, I got up and pulled Jinxx up with me. We barely made it a hundred yards when Ash pushed me and Jinxx to the ground. I looked up at him about ready to beat him, then I saw a bolt from a crossbow in his shoulder; I glared at it then at the person standing not too far from us. “Jinxx, take care of Ash.”

Whoever that person was, was going to wish that they never pissed me off.
