I sighed frustratedly, staring down at the black shading I was trying to finish my drawing with.

"Ms. Charpentier," I heard a voice snap. "Are you listening to me?"

I chose to ignore my physics teacher and continue my drawing.

"Ms. Charpentier!"

I groaned and picked up my backpack, slinging it over my shoulder before heading out the door just as the bell rang and the halls crowded. I didn't plan on the bell ringing, I'd just figured he was going to send me to the principal again. Me, the quiet little girl at the front of the class who never set one toe out of line, who's uniform was always worn flawlessly.

Life wasn't fair.

"Hey, look who it is!"

I bit my lip and walked faster.

"Come on, Mary!"

Ignore them, ignore them! I walked faster, avoiding people in my path.

"Mary, sweetheart!"

Trust me to be geeky enough to be targeted by the rest of the music department.

"Oh, Mary, don't be like that!"

"Fuck off, Will!" I muttered just as he grabbed my arm and spun me around.

"Baby," He chuckled.

"No! Let me go!" I tugged back and my ass hit the floor. My ex's shadow loomed over me and I panicked, scrambling backwards before I regained my footing just in time for my back to find itself pressed against the wall. My head hit the tiling and I gasped out in surprise at the sudden flash of pain.

"Sweetheart!" He shook his head, putting a hand under my chin and lifting my head up so that I had to look at him. "Oh, baby, what's wrong?" His other hand rested on my abdomen and I bit my lip, tears clouding my vision.

"Fuck off, Will!" I shrieked. By now, the halls were emptying, people were in their classes eagerly awaiting the bell. Not that Will cared that either of us would be late to class.

"Mary," He shook his head, nuzzling into my neck. I was sobbing at this point, trying to pull away.

"Pity, isn't it?" He whispered. "That we never got the chance to take this further?"

"Get off of me!"

The bell buzzed and he looked behind him. I took my chance to run. My head was pounding and I could hardly see between the tears and the dizziness that was beginning to overcome me. I practically fell into the bathroom where my eyes fell upon my rattled reflection.

"Oh, Mary…" I sighed to myself. The room was spinning around me and I felt the floor moving up and down and up…and down… "Whoa!" I squeaked as I started losing my balance and fell into the sink…

And down the drain…

I was actually going to call this the exordium...because that's what they call it in the album...but I've been dying to use the word "proem"...
This story isn't my first order of business right now, but I'm much more likely to update it at all if I get comments. I usually update whatever I'm getting comments on...so yeah! :)
(Most chapters will be longer, this is just an intro, of course! But I want some opinions before I continue...)
