Fight Against All Odds
Chapter 25
There was a sea of darkness. So thick, like molasses. The darkness surrounded me and I choked for breath.
"Through sadness you have taught us to be one with the crowd
Unveil the sacred order, hymns of falling down
You told the greatest stories, of love and bleeding crowns
But to the sick and hungry, you cannot be found"
Why was Sweet Blasphemy being sung?
"We are young and we are strong
Through strength in self we become
Something more than they can be
I raise my heart and sing!"
I sang along with the lyrics, noticing there was no instruments, just a voice. A deep, soothing voice that made me smile. A voice that comforted me, a voice that was everything to me. The melody was beautiful.
"That I wont believe this lie
I know there's something more inside
When darkness is all you see
This is our Sweet Blasphemy"
I sang the chorus that was so familiar to me as I tried to journey through the darkness to find a light. I wanted to be saved from the suffocating black. I choked on it, wanting to be freed.
"Silence the crooked holy, unchain the tied and bound
No time for allegory, one true reigning sound
Unite the lonely mourning, a simple servant now
We are the only glory, hear us screaming loud"
I called out for help, but words did not leave my mouth. I continued to sing the heavenly tune.
"We are young and we are strong," I sang out.
I could hear frantic laughter of joy from a world beyond the one I was in. I smiled in content, knowing I wasn't alone. Our voices continued the melody together, mine an octave higher.
"I raise my heart and sing!
That I wont believe this lie
I know there's something more inside
Darkness is all you see
This is our Sweet Blasphemy"
Blinding light flooded the darkness and I felt warm sheets under me. A hand lay on my stomach, caressing the bandages where a knife had entered me. I looked up at a familiar face and smiled weakly. Tears fell down the face, landing on mine. Why was an angel crying? Why was something so beautiful in pain? The angel brushed a strand of hair from my face. It spoke words, weeping.
"We are young and we are strong
Through strength in self we become
Something more than they can be
This is our Sweet Blasphemy"
The melody began again and my eyelids fluttered completely open. I was aware of my surroundings. I sat up, wincing at my body's protest to do so, and wrapped my arms around the angel. "Andy," I cooed in his ear, "I'm here, I'm here." I took in my surroundings. I was in a hospital room, and bright white light shined on my face.. Andy continued the song, whispering it in my ear, his arms wrapping around me to rub light circles on my back. I sighed at his touch, he was my Saviour.
"That I wont believe this lie
I know there's something more inside
Darkness is all you see
This is our Sweet Blasphemy"
His hands glided to my shoulders and pushed me back slightly so he could see my face. I stared into the sapphires that were his eyes, scared they might at any second fade to Gray. The thought scared me, I just stared at the color, never wanting it to leave.
"Don't leave me," I whimpered.
"Why would I?" He sighed softly.
"You did last time," I cried, collapsing into his shoulder. My tears slowly soaked through the plain black t-shirt he was wearing. His fingers lightly ran through my hair as I sobbed violently into his shoulder.
"I won't leave you ever. I promise," he whispered into my ear, emphasizing the word promise.
"Really," I pleaded, sitting up to look into his sapphire eyes.
"A promise is a promise," he confirmed, pulling me back into his arms.
We stayed there, holding each other for a few moments.
"I have to go tell the nurse you are awake," Andy sighed, standing up. "I'll be back in a moment."
"Alright," I agreed, laying back down on the bed.
He left the room and seconds later returned with a red headed nurse. Her freckles making her face bright and warm. Her smile caused the corners of her bright green eyes to wrinkle. Her beautiful face left me smiling for some reason.
"Well I see you've awoken," she smiled, scribbling notes on her clipboard. "How are you feeling?" She asked brightly.
"Dizzy," I sighed. "Why doesn't my stomach hurt?" I asked, realizing it hadn't bothered me. I was stabbed! Shouldn't I be screaming.
"There is a magical thing in this world called painkillers!" She laughed.
"Oh," I said, blushing at the obviousness of the answer. "So how long was I asleep," I asked.
"Two days," she giggled, her laugh sounding like bells. She was beginning to annoy me now. "You are lucky the knife didn't go to deep. We were afraid you were going to slip into a coma."
"Oh," I said, not sure how exactly to react. "When can I leave?" I questioned.
"A week at the most. You have already healed quite a lot so I wouldn't expect you to be here too long," she smiled. "However once you leave you cannot begin training for a few more weeks."
I nodded my head. I felt so weak anyways. Andy walked over to my side and lightly placed his hand over mine.
"Well I believe that is all," she smiled, turning to leave while she scribbled notes on her clipboard.
Andy sat down on the bed and lightly touched his other hand to my face. "I told you I wouldn't leave," he smiled.
"I know," I sighed, feeling a wave of sleepiness overcome me. I yawned.
"Do you want me to leave you alone so you can sleep?" He sighed, entwining his fingers with mine.
"Stay," I mumbled, letting my eyes flutter closed.
"Okay, okay," he laughed. He climbed under the sheets and wrapped his arms around me. His head lay on my shoulder.
After a few seconds I turned over to face him.
"When your eyes were about to turn Gray, what were you trying to say?" I whispered.
"Do you really want to know?" He breathed out, the air tickling my face. His hands wrapped in mine.
"Yes," I answered back, my eyes focused on his.
"Grace, I love you."
"I love you too."
He pulled me close to his chest, and I fell asleep to the sound of his heart beating.

I love the story but it really triggered my emotions
