Fight Against All Odds

Chapter 12

I barely saw anyone besides my training partners, Amy, and Andy for the rest of the week.

Friday came, and an air of excitement hung over the refugee camp. Apparently there was a party tonight that EVERYONE was going to.

I stood with a gun in my hand, in the center of the training room.

Meredith and Destiny, the two ninja women, sat in a corner laughing. Probably at me. Save for the time I had killed the driver of the police car on the way to the camp, I had never shot a gun. I had never had the desire to either.

I switched the safety off then pulled the trigger.

BAM!

A bullet hole had appeared 10 feet away from the target.

The two men, who were apparently experienced hunters, hit the targets with ease a couple yards away. They were brothers named Thomas and Sam. They had happened to be at the Florida Mall when the revolution happened so they were automatically saved.

Tobias, the little twelve year old, sat and watched. He wasn't old enough to fight yet.

"Good for your first try Grace," Andy smiled. He smiled at me every two seconds and it made me nervous. My anxiety over whether he actually liked me or not was going to be the death of me.

I could already feel myself blushing.

Andy hadn't talked to me much since Monday. He focused on training. Whenever I did anything successful in my training he would grin and tell me I was doing a very good job. I wondered if he acted this way to everyone, or just me.

I aimed my gun at the target again and shot. From my nerves, the bullet hole appeared 20 feet away. I frowned.

"You're not aiming correctly," Andy said, his voice calm.

"I don't know how!" I said in frustration.

Andy rolled his eyes and laughed. "Let me help you," he said.

He walked over and put his arms around me as he held the gun, guiding my arms so they were aimed at the target. I was blushing so badly that I must've looked like a strawberry. His arms were surprisingly muscular compared to his skinny frame.

"Pull the trigger," he said.

I pulled the trigger and hit the target directly.

Andy pulled away. "Perfect!"

I smiled.

Training was over all too soon and I rushed to the elevator to my room, only to meet Amy.

"Sooooo what happened today!?" She said. I rolled my eyes. She somehow expected some kind of relationship to come out of this. I still didn't believe he actually liked me.
"Nothing," I said.

We got in the elevator and the door shut behind us.

"You've gotta come over to my place so I can make you look good for the party!" She said excitedly.
"I wasn't really planning on going to the party..." I said, wanting to get out of this situation fast.
"BUT YOU HAVE TO GO!!!! IM GOING TO BE SINGING!!!" She yelled, "PLUS ANDY'S PROBABLY GOING TO BE THERE!!!"
"Fine I'll watch you sing the I'll leave! Happy?" I said, annoyed.
"Nope. You have to come over so I can make you look pretty. No offense but you don't look too good now."
"No duh!"
"IS THAT A YES!!" She yelled, bouncing up and down in excitement.
"Sure," I replied a little worried.
"YAY!!!"

This was going to be interesting.

Two hours later I was wearing a tight, short black dress with leather boots. Fishnet tights were on my legs and I felt slightly like a slut. My hair was flat and teased and my makeup was simple black eyeliner with mascara.

I had to admit, I was stunning.

As I stood in front of Amy's mirror her smile was so wide it was turning into a Chelsea Grin.

"You look amazing Grace!" She said in awe.
"I don't know what to say...thank you!" I blushed.
"No problem! I'm here for you always!" She laughed. "Now let's get to that party!"

We walked to the elevator together. She was stunning as well. She was wearing a long, gothic-style, black dress that looked beautiful. She was wearing lace gloves and her black hair was in a messy bun.

After we got out of the elevator we walked to the same club as the last party. This party had a upbeat, rebellious vibe to it. I recognized Nickelback in the background. I found myself impressed such a famous band was playing.

"I gotta go get ready! It's almost time for me to go on!" Amy said to me as she walked away.
"Okay!" I yelled as she disappeared into the crowd. I walked in and felt everyone's eyes on me. I blushed dark red.

I made my way through the crowd and eventually ended up sitting on a couch away from most of the noise. I could already tell I wasn't going to enjoy this.

A few guys I didn't know offered to buy me drinks, but I declined each one. All of them weren't my type anyway. They were all rich looking guys who obviously took girls home for a night then left them the next day. I didn't want to get mixed up with that shit.

I sat for what must've been an hour, and then I recognized Amy's voice over the mic.

"It's true. We're all a little...insane!" The crowd immediately began to sing along. Sweet Sacrifice was one of my favorite songs by Evanescence, and I hummed along, humming an octave lower where the song went REALLY high.

Her voice was so beautiful and mysterious. She was definitely a leader of the rebels just by her lyrics. How could the Gray outlaw music? Music was what defined our lives,

Then again the Gray took away our lives.

"Alright this song is for everybody who has ever fallen in love!" Amy said after the song was finished.

A piano intro was played.

"I'm so tired of being here..."

The crowd grew silent to the lyrics of "My Immortal". I felt tears begin to form in my eyes. It was so beautiful.

"May I have this dance," an all too familiar voice said.

I looked up to see Andy, holding a hand out to me. I took it.

He pulled me from the chair and onto the dance floor where other couples were slow dancing. Andy put his arms around me and pulled me close to him. He then guided me into a slow dance to the tune of the song.

"You look beautiful tonight," he smiled.
"Thank you. You look handsome as always," I said, blushing. He was wearing a dark blazer with black jeans. His hauntingly blue eyes stared into mine, making my face turn redder and redder.
"Believe me you look absolutely stunning, not that you don't look stunning anyways," he said, a grin spreading across his face. He kissed my cheek.

We stared into each other's eyes while the music played.

I felt my heart flutter inside my chest. The silence between us was frustrating, yet said so many things. We were lost in each other. Andy's face was frozen in an unreadable smile that made my mind go crazy trying to figure out the source. I was still blushing. I continued to stare into his perfect eyes until the music cut off and "Haunted" began to play.

Andy let go of me and took my hand into his again.

"Wanna go someplace quieter?" He asked.
"Sure," I smiled.

He led me deep into the club into a smaller room with less people in it. The music was now muffled. Most people were just talking to each other.

We sat down next to each other on a couch.

"You're doing it again," he smiled.
"What?" I asked, my face burning.
"Blushing," he said softly.

I hid my face in my hands.

"Aww don't do that!" He said, laughing, " you're adorable when you blush!"

I removed my hands and he smiled.

"You're really beautiful Grace," he said, taking my hand into his. His eyes were focused on mine. I couldn't look away from his stare. I felt some kind of electricity pulling me closer to him. I was trembling.

He brushed my hair behind my ear with his other hand. The silence between us was saying more than words ever could. In that moment I realized I wanted, no, I needed him more than anything. I felt the space suddenly close between us as he leaned closer and closer to my face. His eyes closing.

The electricity between us was too much to withstand. I closed my eyes.

For a brief second he barely touched my lips to his, then he kissed them gently. He wrapped one arm around my back and pulled me closer to him. I was suddenly so filled with longing for him. I put my hand on his shoulder and deepened the kiss.

We broke for air and he was again staring into my eyes.

"I think I'm falling for you Grace," he whispered.
"I think I'm falling for you too," I breathed back.

We sat there together for a while, just us staring into each other's eyes.

I had already fallen for him.

I am crying. i cant believe andy almost died. I often get fanfiction confused with real life, and since andy was a real person rather than just a character, it was like he really died to me. that was a sick joke >:(
