Fight Against All Odds

Chapter 9

Take a five year old kid who cannot sleep on the night of Christmas Eve because Santa Clauss is about to give him presents...multiply it by 2 million...and you're still not close to the excitement I have right now.

I was standing in the center of a Hot Topic, and I was seriously about to cry. All of a sudden I just wanted my gray uniform off.

Plus I could choose whatever I wanted.

Yup, the rebel's base is located in the Florida Mall. Best place in the world.

Of course, it's surrounded by barbed wire fence and has watch towers that are patrolled 24/7 now. But otherwise, it's the Florida Mall alright.

Andy wasn't kidding though when he said an "underground" civilization. There was literally a network of cities underneath the eyes of the people we called Gray. It was a fitting name for the people who caused so much pain without remorse or regret.

I faced the countless band t-shirts. So many to choose from? Which do I pick?

I couldn't resist. I picked up a Metallica shirt with the album cover of "Master of Puppets" on it. Who doesn't love Metallica? I than chose some black ripped up skinny jeans. I would go get some boots from Pacsun later. Amazing how I still remember the names of all this stuff after a year of hearing nothing but shit about how the government is always right and I don't control my life.

I had a room in the "Florida Hotel" which was literally a hotel in the mall. Even though it was just your average hotel room it was a luxury compared to what I had lived in.

I walked to Pacsun and picked up some boots and a black leather jacket. Of course there was a limit to the amount of stuff I could get but the limit was far better than the gray shirt and pants I was currently wearing.

After I went to Mac and got some makeup (never shopped there before so that was exciting) I basically sprinted to my room to try the things on.

As I undressed I noticed in a mirror how pale and breakable I looked. I was basically a walking skeleton. Before the events of the last year occurred I wasn't fat, but I wasn't bone skinny either. Whatever curves I had had disappeared.

Five dark red marks dotted my arm from where the needle had slid into my skin. Looking at the marks made me sick. The pain was so excruciating, I would sooner kill myself than go through that again

I dressed in my clothing then pulled out a flat iron I had gotten and straightened my hair. As the flat iron began to make my hair look better my mind drifted back to earlier today.

Andy had stayed silent for the rest of the ride to the base. He was obviously struggling to not cry. I looked at James's face and then hid behind my hair so no one could see the tears that fell down my cheeks. My neck was stinging from where Dr. Good had tried to kill me and I was covered in bruises. The kids faces were in shock. They were eerily quiet.

When we had arrived we were met by two men in U.S. military uniforms. They had then taken me into the mall and I was shown my room and given a list of things I could do.

My main job though, was to train for the rebellion.

Training would start tomorrow and I was expected to be at the training center at 9 am. I was issued blue sweatpants and a sweatshirt.

The idea of training scared me, but I would fight for freedom whatever the cost.

When my hair was flat I teased it a little and sprayed hairspray on it. My hair was being a bit more stubborn than usual but I was just thankful I still remembered how to fix my hair. I then did my makeup and looked decent even though the eyeliner was a slight challenge.

I pulled my leather jacket over my shoulders and walked out of the hotel room.

According to the list I was given, there were various parties happening every night and restaurants where I could get food. I wondered how they were able to get food without attracting the attention of the Gray.

As I walked towards the elevator I heard someone walking behind me. I immediately turned around.

"Well it's not everyday you see a new face is it?" The person behind me said.

I immeadiatly recognized him.

"R-Ronnie Radke?" I resisted the temptation to scream.
"Yup," he grinned, "and what's your name darlin'?"
"Um I'm Grace," I said nervously.
"Pretty name," he smiled, causing me to blush, "So you're the one Andy never shuts up about?"
ANDY TALKS ABOUT ME?!?!?!?!?
"Uh, I guess?" I said.

All of a sudden another person walked into the room. I could already feel the tension in the air.

"Great not this asshole again," Ronnie grumbled.

Craig Mabbit walked into the hallway then froze.

"Mabbit," Ronnie said with a colorless voice.
"Radke," Craig answered back harshly.

I just sort of stood there awkwardly. I always thought this little fight going on between them was pointless. People made mistakes. So what? You can't hold a grudge the rest of your life. Personally I loved both Falling in Reverse and Escape the Fate.

They sort of stood, staring at each other until yet another person stepped into the hallway.

"GUYS STOP THIS POINTLESS SHIT OKAY I'M TIRED OF IT!!!!"

Oh. My. Gosh. It was Amy Lee.

Immeadiatly they stopped their awkward staring contest and walked in opposite directions. I was just frozen.

"Ugh why can't they just learn to get along?" Amy rolled her eyes.
I must of looked like an idiot because I just stood there and stared. I couldn't help it. She was my inspiration. When I realized she expected me to reply I froze for a second.
"I know right. It was a LONG time ago."
"So what's your name?" Amy asked.
"Grace."
"I'm Amy."
"I know. I love Evanescence!" I smiled.
"We'll thank you then," she grinned, " are you going to the party?"
"What party?" I asked.
She laughed a little. "Follow me."

Went went down the elevator and headed to a restaraunt I had never been to. It was crowded and colorful lights were flashing. I heard music. Live music.

"In the End! As you fade into the night? Who will tell? The story of your life? And who will remember your last goodbye? Cuz it's the end! And I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid to die!"

Andy looked up at me and smiled.

I am crying. i cant believe andy almost died. I often get fanfiction confused with real life, and since andy was a real person rather than just a character, it was like he really died to me. that was a sick joke >:(
