Lycodyne

A New Beginning

“I don’t think we’ll be able to find him Moscow.” I turned to my feathered friend who sat on the window sill in the darkness. “ They sent us here because they identified his location. We’ll find him, don’t worry Sakinya.” The owl gave me a small nod with his feathered head and flew out the opened window that led into the darkness of the night. “Just hunt him down, then you can leave this monastery.” I told myself as I fell into a deep sleep. I awoke and quickly got ready for the day………………I was going to skip classes today in search of the Lycodyne. Let me explain. A lycodyne is a beast inside the body of a mortal. Their abilities are endless. They are most known for their shape shifting abilities. I was sent with Moscow…my shape shifting owl, to hunt the most dangerous Lycodyne down. We were told of his location and were sent to a collage. Much with the looks of Hogwarts. I guess you could say it was because reality thought it was a normal learning space but underneath was a different story. I had to find the way down to the hallways beneath the school to find this, lycodyne. But I’ve searched for , well, 2 days…..I just arrived at this hell hole….I wasn’t getting along with society either. Anyway…I was told to find this lycodyne before he could bring back his own kind and plot a plan of war with us again. They had been stopped and were sent to reality as punishment but ‘he’ was finding a way to break through.
I exited my dorm as the school day began. Waiting for the hallways to empty I decided to bring Moscow with me. I opened my window till he came in. He then shape shifted into a small black fox. I guess I could take him with me for most people weren’t in the hallways in this time of day for mornings were always the busiest. I brought a small dagger with me. I put it in my boot just in case. I walked out with Moscow shutting the door behind me. I walked down the hallway with Moscow trotting beside. The walls were stone and the flooring was an old wood with a rug of red that guided along the hallways. The floors would sometimes creak when walled but not always. I stumbled into a restricted part of the school. So I let my curiosity get the best of me and picked the lock with a bobby pin that I kept with me just in case and broke in.

There was little light from the windows lighting the room. It was an empty hallway leading to several old classrooms. It seemed that this area of the school hadn’t been touched in years. Moscow shifted into a snake…..a huge black snake… He told me to separate and search for an entry to the lower hallways of the school. I watched as he quickly made his way through the following hallway ahead sliding against the bottom of the wall. I took a left and continued my search. It was a little darker in the direction I was heading.

“THEY ARE LOOKING FOR YOU!” I was aware of what he was telling me already. “YOU HAVE NO TIME TO WASTE!” The beast was obviously impatient with my actions for I had not made any progress in marching on with our plan. “You cannot resurrect any more beasts while being hunted.”The gargoyle said with anger in his voice. I nodded and left the stone room and walked along the hallways.

~Sakinya P.O.V.~I continued my search for a way that led to the hallways beneath the school. There were only old doors that led to old, abandoned class rooms. I was then cut out of my sense of observation and was shoved up against the wall as a hand covered my mouth. “That was too easy” he said in a deep raspy voice that sent shivers up my spine. Well, I’m glad I found what I was searching for. “You’re not exactly what I expected.” he said. He removed his hand away from my mouth so he could lean in placing his elbows on each side of the wall above my head resting his arms against the old wood, he was obviously trying to show dominance. I still couldn’t see his face as he got closer to me, leaning beside my left ear saying, “how about we make things a little harder. ( pshhhh..huh huh…that’s what she said..) I think you can do…better than this.” Did he think this was a game? Surely it wasn’t. Next thing he said was so deep and raspy I started to get frightened, not that I wasn’t already. I saw his deep blue eyes shine as he leaned in more….his lips brushing against my ear as he said…” I’ll see you…later.” Then he was gone. Hold shit. He scares the crap out of me. He also thought this was some kind of silly game. No. This was much more than that. I also have to find him before he finds me…again. I ran through the darkened hallways turning a corner to the door me and Moscow entered through. I tugged at the rusted metal handle. Locked. Perfect. “MOSCOW!” I shouted, fearing for my only friend’s safety. I was startled when I heard a voice echoing through all the hallways. “Ha, ha, ha… how pathetic.” It was him. “Hmm…how about this….if you can locate the next level downstairs……..without getting caught….by my presence, I’ll let you and your friend go. …..but if you do…” there was a short but frightening pause before he continued…”well….we’ll just wait…and see.” NO! I don’t want to play anymore games. I was angry with him. He was being foolish. He also stole my best friend. I screamed in rage as loud as I could. “ NOOO! JUST COME HERE AND FIGHT! YOU FUCKING BASTARD!!!” I stood there in silence waiting for a reply. Nothing. I sighed angrily and started running down the hallways looking for an exit. My boots making contact with the floor boards was probably giving myself away. But I didn’t care. After a few minutes of running I stopped and raged. “ WHERE ARE YOU!” I screamed as loud as I could. I was scared of him. After all, he was the strongest lycodyne. So why was he using his mortal form? I don’t have time to waste my thoughts on this, I thought to myself. I heard flapping come from around the corner of the hallway I was currently in. Moscow. He was shaped as an owl. “GO! HE’S COMING!!!” I followed Moscow’s orders and ran the opposite direction of where I was once headed. “FIND THE DOOR!” The owl shouted again. The owl flew alongside me as I ran through the hallways trying to locate the door that led down stairs. Just then I heard a piercing roar of a beast that caused me to slam my hands against my ears. I continued to run. I heard snarling and massive paws pounding the ground, as if a beast was chasing after us. Which there was. I looked behind me as my hair followed brushing against my face. I widened my eyes at the sight. I couldn’t make out the beast but I had a pretty damn good idea of what it was. The beast jumped out as it got closer to us. Unleashing its razor sharp claws that were attempting to catch me as I crouched, ducking with my arms folded over my heads for protection. Even though I knew it would serve no purpose at all. Just as I expected impact to come I heard a heavy slam. I stayed in my crouching position on the ground as I opened my eyes in fear, arms still over my head, to see what had happened. Two massive bodies were fighting. They would be described as silhouettes for all I could see was darkness and you could only make out figures. Moscow had shifted into a white tiger. Much bigger than a regular sized tiger, probably so he can take this devil down. I heard screams and roars. The black wolf like monster slammed Moscow into the wall contacting with his back. He roared in pain then used his razor sharp teeth to bite the monster in the neck. Letting go almost instantly, Moscow fell back to a 4-legged standing position as the monster backed away screeching in pain. He could walk like a bear, but instead of always 4 feet on the ground, this beast normally stood like a human. The monster covered up his new wound on his neck, reassuring his breath. I’m guessing it was a deep bite because he shifted into a mortal again and slid down the wall to the ground holding his blood soaked neck. I watched as Moscow slowly made his way to him, curiously observing him. I could clearly see in the dark a little bit better than before as I realized my eyes had adjusted to the light. I stood and walked slowly over to him to see a boy about 17 to 18 years old, well, he was probably much, much older than that for what he actually was. My heart sunk as he looked up at me. His deep blue eyes burned into me as if through me. As if he could read my own thoughts. Blood was draining from his neck badly. “Well….” I started. “That was too easy.” Mocking what he had said to me earlier. The boy just looked at me as if he needed help. I couldn’t resist the fact that I was starting to feel a little sympathy for him. I slowly made my way closer to him. “NO!” Moscow growled at me. “ IT”S A TRICK!”
I saw a brilliant white smile in front of me, then the boy quickly got back up on his feet again as if nothing happened to cause him pain. He then turned around to deal with Moscow, knocking the white tiger out cold, then turned around to face me again. He smiled with an evil smirk that made me melt in fear. “Lets deal with you so I can get back to work.” He backed me up against the wall again. He pinned me up against the wall holding my shoulders. I looked up at him and saw him smile wide, showing off his double fangs. “NO!” I screeched. I CAN’T become one of them! “GET AWAY FROM ME!” I tried to push him away but failed. He was too strong. Ironic for he barely had any muscle at all. I felt tears fall from my face. “LET ME GO!!!” I remembered the dagger in my boot, I attempted to push him off me again so I could get to my dagger but it was no use. “PLEASE!” I was so caught up in screaming at him that I didn’t notice he was just looking at me. My face was wet with tears as I looked up at him. Why was he just standing there? He dropped his hands from my shoulders and took a few steps back. He looked, stunned. I could see sadness in his eyes. He had backed up far enough into the shadows I couldn’t see him. So I took out my video camera and held on the flash to see if he would attack or not so I could run. As I turned the light on, the shadows that engulfed him disappeared letting light shine on him. Oh my god. “Andy….is that you?” He held the same face, stunned. Then he slid down the wall again with his back entering a sitting position on the ground. He set his right arm on his right leg that was bent to prop up his elbow. I accidently clicked my camera without knowing for I was too emotionally caught up in my thoughts. Tears welled up in my eyes. “What have you done.” I told him. He just looked up at me with sadness.
