Change My Ways

I told them everything. From when I got kidnapped up until Andy getting shot. They were shocked to say the least. I was crying by that point, and Ben was trying to calm me own. It was almost like I was fourteen again. He was holding me comfortingly and humming softly; and it still calmed me down six years later.

“Alex,” Danny said softly. “Andy will be fine. I won’t let him die on you.”

“Thanks Rocket,” I smiled slightly, wiping away my tears. “I just needed to see you guys.”

“How about we go do something fun?” Sam suggested.

“I would,” I started. “But I want to go check up on Andy.”

“We’ll do that first then,” James said.

“And then, Operation Tigger,” Cameron finished.

“Not again,” I groaned.

“You need it,” he insisted. “And admit it, you think it’s hilarious.”

“Until you get arrested and or kill yourselves,” I retorted.

Operation Tigger, also known as ‘Do Stupid and Embarrassing Things In Public To Cheer Me Up,’ was a sure-fire way for them to seriously hurt themselves.

“Sorry,” Danny said. “But we’ll Tigger until your ribs hurt from laughing.”

“Let’s go see Andy though,” Ben said. “And then we’ll Tigger.” I scowled and we made our way to the hospital.

Andy still hadn’t woken up. CC was sitting with him when we walked in, and stood up when he saw me.

“Alex-” he cut off when he saw the guys with me.

“CC, meet my second family,” I said softly.

“Wait, Asking?” he asked. “They’re the ones who took you in?”

I nodded, “Yeah. We just came to check on Andy.”

“Nothing’s changed,” he said, looking at my brother sadly.

“He better wake up,” Danny muttered. “You hear that, Andy?” His voice was getting louder. “You better wake up for your sister!” As if that was supposed to make Andy wake up, he went on when my brother didn’t move. “Fuck you, Andy! Wake up!”

“Danny!” Ben scolded. “That’s not going to help!”

“I don’t care!” Danny yelled back. Was he… crying? In all the time I had known him, I hadn’t even heard of him crying, much less seen it. Andy really was one of his best friends, wasn’t he?

Not knowing what to really do in this situation, I hugged him, bordering on tears myself. He had been strong for me for years, so I choked back my tears and decided to be strong for him now.

“C’mon, Rocket,” I murmured. “Let’s go out like you guys suggested.”

I buried my face in my hands, trying to hide myself. Operation Tigger did always make me cheer up, but it also embarrassed the crap out of me. Currently, we were in a mall. Danny and Ben were on one of the tables in the food court doing the tango. Why did they do this? Sam and James were playing leapfrog around the area, and Cameron was just being weird.

Danny and Ben got off the table and began chasing Sam and James around on their hands and knees. I just wanted to curl up in a corner and disappear. They were going to get into so much trouble for this.

My phone vibrated in my pocket and I pulled it out, looking at the text.

Come to the hospital, hurry

I ran out of the mall without thinking twice.
