This Summer is Going to Suck

Coffee and quiet

As the end credits were rolling across the screen for the remake of 'Children of the Corn' there was a sudden pounding at the front door. "Someone pick what to watch next while I get that," CC said, standing and exiting the room.

"Where is she goddammit," an angry voice demanded from the entryway. "You were to take her to the house your mother and I share, not bring her here with all these deviants about."

"Why? You and Mom are leaving on a cruise in a matter of days. Not to mention the fact that the two of you are rarely at the house at all," they could all hear CC reply.

"I don't care. It wasn't your decision to make. MAY! MAY GET OUT HERE," the voice shouted. "NOW!"

Pale and trembling, May did as the voice commanded and walked into the entryway. "May, gather your things and come with me," the man standing at the door said.

"Why should I?" May asked quietly, proud of herself for not stuttering.

"Because I am your father and I said so," the man said harshly.

"Oh, so now you want that title," May drawled, suddenly filled with rage. "What about after you walked out? Seems to me you couldn't get away fast enough then. Sure as hell didn't bother with any fatherly ways after that day did you?" With every question she stepped closer, her body now trembling with rage. "Why the fuck should I give a single fucking care to what you tell me to do or not to do. You miserable fuckwad, you mean nothing to me. Are you so fucking brain damages as to think that after years of nonexistence in my life I would jump at anything you say? Are you so delusional as to think I care about what you do or do not want from me?" she screamed.

After a few moments of stunned silence she turned and calmly walked up to her room, quietly shutting the door and locking it behind her.

May slowly descended the stairs the next morning, her ears straining to pick up any sounds that would indicate that she was not the only one awake. Hearing nothing as she walked into the kitchen she quickly and quietly began to make a pot of coffee.

( http://www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=98659204 ) As she was drinking her second cup of coffee she heard someone come down the stairs, she glanced up from her e-reader in time to see whoever it was head into the kitchen, smiling to herself when she heard the brief happy laugh followed by the sound of them pouring a cup of coffee.

"Ah, so you're whose awake already," a gruff voice said. Glancing up from her book she saw Jake standing in the doorway, she nodded and mumbled a quiet, "morning," before returning to her reading.

She felt the cushion next to her dip and could see, out of the corner of her eye, that Jake was looking at the screen. "What are you reading?" he asked.

"A book," she replied as she reached for her coffee.

"Obviously. But what book?" Jake asked, a smirk playing at his lips.

"Interview with a vampire," May replied after taking a sip of the coffee.

"So, want to talk about what happened last night. The thing with Jack," he asked as he placed his arm on the cushion behind her head.

"Not really," she sighed as she set her mug down and reached for her cigarettes. In fact the last thing she wanted to do was talk about what happened after Jack showed up.
