The Reaper

Carolyn

"Carolyn? That's a beautiful name. Can you tell me how you are feeling? I am trying to heal your wounds and it would help if I became informed of your aches and pains?" I explained to her in a soothing voice. I did not wish for her to become frightened or make any sudden movements as that could have negetive impacts on her healing.

"I... uhm..... I'm really sore... and ouch- my wing hurts... like, really ba- oh.... OH MY GOD! MY WINGS! WHAT HAPPENED TO MY WINGS?!" She shreiked as she saw the new shading on her feathers. I frowned and gently rested my hands on her shoulders. I stared into her eyes as I attempted to soothe her.

"Carolyn... Carolyn you need to breathe. It's okay. Look at me Carolyn, you're okay. I will explain, but you need to calm down for me alright? I don't want you to rip your stitches or hurt yourself anymore than you already are." I explained. It took a little bit, but she eventually took in a few breaths and stopped panicing.

"I know it's scary, and I am very sorry. Your wings are healing perfectly fine. When you were brought to us a few days ago you were severely injured. You were unconcious, and on the brink of death. Your wing was almost completely torn off from your body, and you were covered in bruises and deep cuts. I wouldn't be surprised if you had a few broken bones to be honest." I explained. She just stared at me, her eyes full of fear, confusion, and pain. I longed to see trust in her eyes- but knowing the circumstances, I understood why she had no trust in me just yet.

"My wing was almost... torn off?! Wait... you said a few days? Where even am I? Who else is here? How did you find me?! That doesn't explain why my wings changed color! They were a beautiful and pure white, and now they're tainted and dirty!" She questioned then exclaimed. It was clear that her brain was moving a million miles per hour jumping around from thought to thought due to her fear and confusion.

"Your wings are not dirty- allow me to explain please." I said, attempting to calm her down as much as possible.

"I am The Mourner. The humans know me as The Grim Reaper. I am the one that guides souls on to the afterlife. You see, when you were brought here your wing was barely attatched to your body. I know Fallen Angels, and I know that when you lose a wing- you either die, or become human. Being The Mourner, I knew that you were close to death and I decided to do all I could to reattatch your wing. In order to do so I had to take threads from my cloak and use that to stitch you back together. With the threads from my cloak, you are now immortal- it's as if you are hiding from death by being death itself. I think that's why you can see me. Most spirits- be it mortal or immortal- have problems seeing me... but since we're both under pieces of my cloak, we can see one another. I am sorry to tell you that your wings will never be white again. They have faded to black because unfortunately that is the price... It was the mark left on your body for being touched by death and still continuing your life. Does this make sense?" I asked.

"I.... I guess... kinda.... I'm sorry for flipping out, I'm just... I don't know where I am or how I got here..." She whispered. I nodded, understanding her fear.

"You are at our camp. We are in the middle of a desert and we are at war with an organization called F.E.A.R." I explained.

I told her all about The Wild Ones, Chaz, and our small- but still growing army. It must have been a few hours as I told her the story of how I found Chaz, and how all of this started. I explained F.E.A.R. and The Wretcheds. I even told her in depth about myself and the other Wild Ones, making sure to explain every detail. I was desperately trying to get her to understand where she was, and perhaps even trust me a little. I wanted her to remember why she was a Fallen Angel, and what happened before The Deviant, The Mystic, and Chaz brought her back to camp. Chaz had explained to us all what had happened when they found her, but I wanted her to remember on her own.

"J-jake?" She whispered when I was done with my story.

"Yes Carolyn?"

"Can we maybe get something to eat? And uhm... is it possible for me to meet The Prophet? Since he's your leader I really need to talk to him." She muttered. I sat and thought for a moment and eventually nodded when I realized it wouldn't do much damage seeing as how her wing was wrapped to her body.

"We can go to the mess tent, then over towards The Wild One's tent afterwards. Although, you're still weak and covered in bruises and cuts. I don't want you to strain your stitches even though your wing is wrapped securely. Do you trust me enough to carry you there myself?" I asked her. She thought for a few moments, then eventually she nodded. I removed her blanket and gently lifted her body. She tried her best to wrap her arms around my neck to hold herself up, but seeing as she was still weak and injured- it didn't do much. I wasn't complaining though, I didn't know why, but I enjoyed being close to another being. It had been a while since I actually took care of someone and helped them survive instead of just showed them the way to the afterlife.

"Alright, this is the Mess Tent. Alright, careful now, I'm going to set you down on this bench alright? If you can't sit up just let me know and we'll figure something out." I explained to her as I gently set her down, making sure she wasn't sitting on the bottom of her wings. I was about to remove my hands when I realized she was still leaning into me.

"I... I can't do it... it hurts. I can feel it pulling my wng." She whispered quietly as her face squinted together in pain. I nodded and frowned. I held her steady and sat down on the bench myself, then pulled her next to me carefully- allowing her to lean into me to keep her upright.

"Hey, Danny, Rayne, can you guys do me a favor and bring Carolyn and I some food? She's still injured." I said to the two soldiers that were also sitting at the table we were sitting at. When I first said something they both jumped. 'They can't see you Jake.. remember?' I thought to myself and sighed.

"Uh, yeah. I'll go grab two plates. Where are you sitting? Next to the bandaged chick?" Rayne asked, raising an eyebrow and looking around for me.

"Yeah... she's leaning into me so she doesn't fall over. I'm on her left." I explained. Rayne nodded and got up. She brought us two plates of food and set them down infront of Carolyn, still unsure as to where I was. I reached over and pulled one of the plates infront of me.

"Thank you Rayne." I said. She nodded and sat back down next to Danny across the table from us.

"Do you need help eating? Or can you get it?" I asked Carolyn.

"Can you help me? I just... it hurts." She whispered.

"Yeah, no problem. I'm sorry we don't have any medicine to help with the pain."

"It's okay." She whispered. I grabbed her fork and brought some food to her mouth. She opened her mouth and took a bite. I smiled gently at her, glad that I was helping someone instead of the opposite. I looked and noticed other recruits staring at us, I chuckled as I realized they probably thought it was strange seeing a floating fork. I continued feeding her, and then fed myself. Once we finished eating I gently picked her back up and carried her to The Prophet who was in the Planning Room. I knocked on the door and he opened it.

"Andy, the Fallen Angel is awake. Her name is Carolyn. I explained everything about The Wild Ones and F.E.A.R. to her and she'd like to talk to you, and I'm sure you'd like to talk to her as well." I explained as I walked into the room.

"Ah... Hello Carolyn. Why do YOU want to talk to ME?" He asked, obviously curious considering I brought her to him instead of him coming to her and questioning her where she was. I'll admit, it was very odd....

"I... I think I remember what happened."
