The Hangover

The next morning . . . No, wait. It’s afternoon. Well, the next afternoon, when I wake up, I have such a bad headache, and I’m totally going to puke. Please, let me make it to the bathroom before I do!
I slowly crawl out of my bunk, if you could even call it that. I more like just flopped out, onto the hard floor below, and crawled on my hands and knees to the bathroom. I don’t bother knocking before entering, and when I get to the sink throw up.
“Whoa! Kid! Warn someone before entering!” I hear someone shout, and I try to block out the loud noise, but it’s no use. I groan, then throw up again. So much for not getting trashed. Holy hell! I’m never getting drunk again . . . Like, ever again.
“First hangover’s always a bitch,” I hear the voice again, only it’s softer this time, and doesn’t hurt my head any more than it already is. This time I can make out that voice, and I know it’s Jayy.
I groan in agony again, and murmur, “Never again. Never fucking ever again.”
I hear him chuckle, and then I realize, he’s in the shower. Oops. Oh well.
“When you’re done getting sick, head out to the front room. Dahvie has a few items to help combat that nasty shit you’re going through right now,” Jayy tell me, and I nod, then throw up in the sink again.
When I’m sure I’m not going to throw up anymore, I rinse my mouth out with water, then head out to the main room, as told to.
As I enter, Dahvie laughs at me, and says, “Man, you look like hell.”
“And I feel even worse,” I say, falling back on the brown, leather sofa, and covering my eyes from the light, with my arm.
“I wouldn’t doubt that. Here. Eat this, drink this, and then I’ll grab some Tylenol for your sorry ass,” he says, placing two things on my lap. When I look down I see a banana and a Monster Energy Rehab drink. I crack the Monster open and take small sip of it. I then open the banana and nibble on it, taking tiny, tiny bites.
I see Haley at the table and ask, “Does this shit really work?”
“You’d be surprised,” she tells me, giving me a sympathetic smile.
I shrug, then continue to eat the banana and sip the Monster. Dahvie enters again, and passes me 3 Tylenols and says, “When you finish eating, take those. It’ll help with the headache.”
“What’s with the banana?” I ask him.
“Bananas have lots of potassium in them, as well as many other vital things our bodies need to survive. It replaces the shit you lost while drinking last night, and if you still feel sick after eating that, we’ll get you something to coat your stomach,” he tells me, sitting back next to me.
I nod, then finish the banana. I take the three little red pills and finish my Monster, then Dahvie shoves a Gatorade at me. I take the blue liquid, and then drink half the thing at one time. I’m willing to do anything it takes to get rid of this hangover. Ugh.
“How’s your stomach?” Dahvie asked.
“Still want to throw up,” I tell him.
He chuckles, and says, “I’ll be right back. Haley, keep an eye on her for me, until I get back?”
“Sure. No problem,” she tells him, as he’s about to walk out the door. I silently wonder what he’s going to get me, then shrug it off, and lean over on the couch. It’s only when my head lands on someone’s leg that I realize it’s not just Haley and me in the bus.
When I look up, I see Adrian, and he says, “Relax. You can lay there as long as you need. I won’t say anything, Micro.”
I nod, then get comfortable again, and close my eyes. I hear Jayy a short time later ask, “She’s asleep again?”
“No,” I grumble, “Just half dead.”
I hear them all chuckle at me, then Jayy asked, “Where’s Dahvie?”
“Out getting her something for her stomach,” Haley’s voice says.
“I see. Well, how’s the headache, kiddo?” Jayy’s voice sounds closer now, and I peek up at him through my eyelashes.
“Not as bad, but still pretty bad,” I reply.
“What’s he given her?” Jayy asked.
“One of his special cocktails,” Haley answers, “Three Tylenols, Monster Rehab, a banana, and Gatorade.”
“If he’s getting her what I think he’s getting her, I want her to eat it over by the bathroom,” Jayy tell her, sitting opposite of her.
“What’s he getting?” I ask.
“Probably a damn cheeseburger. The grease is meant to coat the stomach wall, but for Jayy it always has the opposite effect,” Adrian’s deep voice explains.
“Ugh,” I groan, and cover my eyes with my arm again, just as the door opens.
“Here, Katie. Sit up, and eat,” I hear Dahvie’s voice say, and a paper bag crinkling.
“Yeah, yeah. Thanks,” I tell him, as I grab the bag from him, in a weak manner. I am feeling better, but I can’t seem to knock this nasty hangover completely. I shuffle over to the bunks, and sit on the one closest to the bathroom, in case I’m like Jayy, and not Dahvie. I grab the burger out of the bag, and slowly nibble on it, until it’s gone.
Wow. I’m feeling at least 50% better now, so I head back out to throw my trash away, then sit on the couch between Dahvie and Adrian. When I get settled in, Jayy asked, “How ya feeling, now?”
“Better. Still not 100%, but better than the negative 5,000% I was when I woke up,” I reply, then lean my head on Dahvie’s shoulder and close my eyes.
“Just relax for a bit. Maybe even try to take a nap. I know that always helped me,” I hear Haley offer. I nod, then stand up, and head to my bunk again. I get under the covers and soon pass out.
The next time I wake up, Jayy’s standing by my bunk and passes me a new Gatorade, and three more pills. I willingly take them, even though my headaches about gone, and ask, “What time is it?”
“Oh, about 6:45,” he says looking at his phone.
I nod, then hop out of bed, and go start getting ready. I take a quick shower, get changed, then do my hair, contacts, and makeup, adding a little more of my Hard Candy Glamoflage under my eyes than normal, and doing my makeup in the darkest black I own.
When I’m ready, I head back to the front, and sit with Dahvie. He tells me an old friend of theirs is going to pay them a visit, and I don’t have time to ask who, before there’s a knock on the door, and Jayy is returning with Bryan Stars and his dad.
Bryan talks to Jayy and Dahvie for a bit, then Dahvie says, “By the way, this is our little sister, Katie. Katie, meet Bryan Stars.”
“Pleasure to meet you,” he says, holding his hand out for mine. I shake his hand and say, “Pleasure to meet you, too.”
“Umm . . . I was wondering if it would be alright to have her in the interview too,” Bryan asked Jayy and Dahvie.
“It’s really up to her, man,” Dahvie says, and then asked me, “What do you say?”
“I guess,” I say with a small shrug.
“Awesome!” Bryan says excitedly.
“Well, come on, Micro,” Jayy says, patting his lap, since sitting next to him is too mainstream.
I roll my lime green eyes at him, then sit on his lap, and settle in for the interview. Bryan starts it with a few questions for Dahvie and Jayy, then he says, “Katie, a lot of the fans have been wanting to know who you are, and how you got to know Jayy and Dahvie.”
“Well, I was put into an orphanage after my parents were killed in a car accident, and then Jayy walked in one day and said he wanted me to be his little sister, and that’s that. I mean, not a whole lot to tell, but it works,” I tell him.
“Very cool. Was there any specific reason you chose her, a what? 17 year old girl, over all the other kids in there?” Bryan asked Jayy, and he goes into explaining. After an hour or so, Bryan points out our contacts. Jayy’s wearing White Out, Dahvie has his red ones in, and I’m wearing the green ones we got not too long ago.
“Only we know each other’s real eye color,” Jayy says to Bryan in a creepy voice, and we continue the interview for a little longer, before heading into the venue. While Dahvie and Jayy finish up getting ready, I head over to Black Veil Brides bus, and hang out with them for a while.
“So, haven’t been cutting, right?” Andy asked while we had an odd moment of alone time.
“Nope. None,” I lie through my teeth. I have, but he doesn’t need to know that.
He studies me, but says nothing. Then Ashley joins us, and says, “Can I get a good luck kiss on the cheek?”
I laugh, then stand up, walk to him and wrap my arms around his neck to bring his face down to my height. I kiss his cheek and then say, “We can talk tonight, if you want. Just let me know, so I can tell my brothers.”
He looks shocked for a moment, then smiles and nods.
