I walked down to the park and sat on the swing, remembering the day I met Lyra, when we were both 13 and she came up to me saying that she thought I looked lonely and that no one should be lonely. I smiled remembering as I hear the clipping of high heels. I looked up and my mouth dropped. Lyra was stood there, in a dark blue dress that came just above her knees, her hair all clipped to the side, and her phone in her hand. I had never seen her like that, not even before her accident, but then again this Lyra might not be...my Lyra. The one who lived in skinny jeans and band Tee's, the one who said she would never wear a dress, the one who would said that the only time she'd be in a dress would be her wedding day. "Hey Andy." She said, sitting on the swing beside me. "Hey Lyra, how's the party?" I said, and she laughed. "Well from the last one I went to there probably all fucking and drunk." she said, looking at me. "Oh, nice dress." I said and she smiled at me. "Thanks, though I'm not a big fan. I'd rather live in skinny jeans." She said, and I stared.

"Really?"
"Yeah, I love them. I swear the only day I'd wear a dress is my wedding day." She said, and I stared. She just said exactly what my Lyra once told me, sitting on this exact swing. "Cool, im a guy so I don't have to wear a dress."
"Yeah but you wouldn't wear a full tux to a party would you?"
"I suppose not." I said, chuckling. She sighed, and shivered slightly as a cold breeze passed though us. "Your cold. Here." I said, passing her my leather jacket. "No I'm fine, you'll freeze." She said, and I sighed, getting up and putting it on her shoulders. "I'm fine." I said, and she smiled. "Thanks. I hate the cold, but then again the doctors did say that I would find that changes in temperature would effect me more."
"Doctors?" I asked, looking at her. "Yeah, ermmm, im not sure you want to hear my tale of despair." She said, laughing slightly. "Well we have time, and I have ears that are listening." I said, and she stared at me. "What?" She asked, staring at me. For a second I saw the old Lyra in her eyes, but it died as soon as it appeared. "Nothing, it doesn't matter. Anyway, tell me."

"Fine. Well this is only what doctors and my parents told me, but I was walking home from somewhere and there was a drunk driver. I was crossing the road and he lot control of the car. He hit me at a high speed, and sent me flying across the road. I was taken to hospital and taken into emergency where I slipped into a coma. I woke up two weeks later with no memory of anything. My parents were amazing though. They told me everything about who I was, what I liked, everything. You know they made me back into who I am." She said, and I stared at her. I couldn't believe my ears. "When was this? When did it happen?"
"Ermm, about 6 months ago." She said and my breath hitched. I couldn't believe it, she was my Lyra. Those bastards of parents changed everything about her, and told me she was dead so I couldn't see what they were doing.

They had always hated me, and never liked the way she dressed or who she was friends with. There had been countless times where me and her had gotten into arguments with her parents about how close we were. They hated that I was three years older than her, and that I was in a rock band. If her parents had their way, she'd be dressed in pink an dating a footballer. They never liked me from the minute I walked into their house. They always thought I would sleep around and end up hurting her, which I would never do. I loved her so much, and the guys always said that it bleed through when we were together how much I cared. I loved her deeply, but never told her because I thought she didn't feel the same way. It killed me when I thought she had died. I sighed, and looked at her. "What time is it?" I asked, and she looked down at her phone.

"Half ten. I'll go back at midnight." She said, looking at my leather jacket. "I like this. More than I probably should." She said, and I smiled. I needed to tell her. I had spent my life not telling her things that I knew she needed to know, and I wasn't about to make that mistake again. I sighed, and looked at her. I couldn't tell her, I would lose her again and that would kill me. I couldn't lose her. Not again. "Well it suits you." I said, and she smiled. "If I came back with one of these I think my parents would have a fit." She said, giggling slightly. I smiled, and sighed slightly. "Yeah, I bet they would." I said, and suddenly a bit of rain began to fall. "Shit." She said, and I chuckled as it began to rain badly. I stood up and held out my hand to her. "You better get home. Save you walking alone I'll come with you."
"But then you have to go home alone."
"Yeah but if someone wants to attack me I can fight them off, you'll find it harder." I said, and she laughed. "Oh thanks, talk about give a dog a bad name." She said, taking my hand.

She put her phone in the pocket of the jacket, and pushed her wet hair out of her face. "I'm guessing my eyeliner is running." She said, and I laughed "You look like you've just broke up with chocolate." I said, and she giggled. "Thanks, that would be tragic." She said, and I smiled, following her up the road. "How come your not bothered about the rain?"
"It doesn't bother me really, it's just like a shower outside." She said, and I smiled. My Lyra was still there, as clear as day, just been changed by looks and ways of thought, deep down I knew that my Lyra was fighting, trying to get out of the cage her parents had put her in. "I had a friend that used to say that."
"Really? Was is a she?"
"Yeah."
"Was she nice?"
"She meant the world to me. I loved her to bits."
"What happened?"
"She....died."
"Oh im sorry." She said, and I turned to her. "It's fine. I know she's happy." I said, and she smiled. "I'm sure she was an amazing person."
"She was...." I said, and she smiled.

We came to a house and she sighed, turning to me. "Well here I am." She said, and I smiled at her. "If you need another escape, text me and I'll be at the park in about five minutes." I said and she smiled. "I will, thank you Andy. Oh you need your jacket back." She said, begging to take it off. "No it's fine. How about you give it me back tomorrow at the mall?" I said, and she raised an eyebrow at me. "Is this you asking to meet me?"
"Maybe." I said, and she smiled. "Fine then. I'll text you when I wake up." She said, and I smiled. "Ok then Ly. See you tomorrow."
"Ly?" She asked and I froze. I used the nickname for her I used to. "Oh sorry, I usually shorten peoples names. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Ok, see you Andy." She said, running inside. I watched her walk in a sighed. I needed to stay with her, but I couldn't make her suspect anything...I could blow my cover.
