Chapter 2-
“Okay, so you start here and end here.” Jinxx shows me with his guitar and then helps me do the same thing on mine. “You’re really starting to get the hang of it.”
“Well I have a good teacher.” I reply. He smiles back.
“We’ve only got 10 minutes. Then band is coming over. You can stay a little longer if your mom lets you.” Jinxx suggests.
“Umm, I’ll ask. Are you sure though?” I say reaching for my phone in my pocket.
“Yeah of course, we’re just going to watch movies anyway.” Jinxx laughs.
I smile and then text my mom. “She said it’s okay, I just have to text her when I want her to pick me up.”
“Okay cool,” Jinxx smiles.
He shows me a little more of the song and then we hear a knock on the door.
“Door’s open.” Jinxx yells.
“JINXX!” Their drummer CC yells as he runs over to Jinxx and tackles him to the floor with a giant hug.
“Hi guys.” Jinxx laughs when he sits back up. “This is Harper, I’m teaching her to play the guitar. She’s shy around new people; it took her almost an hour before we were talking properly.” He explains.
“She likes guitars, yay!” Jake and Ashley jump. They come at sit down on either side of me.
“So when did you start playing?” Jake asks.
“Umm today, I’ve been too scared to pick any instrument because I was afraid that I’d break it.” I say quietly.
“She’s really good at it though.” Jinxx smiles.
“We should go downstairs.” Andy says out of nowhere. For a second I forgot that his was standing there.
We all walked down the stairs. Jinxx and Andy go into the kitchen to get snacks, Jake and Ashley pick out a movie and CC makes himself a couch fort. I stand near the staircase awkwardly.
“Is she a fan?” Andy asks Jinxx, he said it a little loudly so I don’t know if that’s called eavesdropping, I think everyone heard it. “Then why isn’t she freaking out?” I hear him ask again. “I mean, that’s what most of them do.” I’ll admit my heart broke a little bit just then.
I get my iPod out of my pocket and start playing ‘Fall To Pieces’ by Avril Lavigne. She’s one of the only female singers that I like, I don’t like many.
You’re also probably wondering why I’m always pulling shit out of my pockets; I don’t like carrying around a bag. I think that they just look weird and annoying.
“Come and sit in my fort Harper.” I hear CC say from inside his little fort.
I walk over and sit next to his fort.
“I can make some more room for you if you want.” He says.
“It’s okay, I’ll just sit here.” I fake smile. Right now I just want to go home and watch a movie alone. Of course I’m happy that one of my favourite bands are in the same room as me but I don’t think Andy likes me. I’m cool with that, like I said you either like a person or you don’t.
“I’m going to go home; can you guys let Jinxx know please?” I ask. I pull out my phone and text my mom telling me that I’m ready to go home.
“Why? The movie hasn’t even started.” Jake sighs.
“I don’t feel welcome, I’m going to go. Sorry.” I quickly go and get my guitar and walk out the front door. I close it behind me quietly and walk over to mom’s car.
“Hey Harper, how was your first lesson?” She asks.
“It was great; he said that I was getting the hang of it.” I reply.
“That’s good sweetie.” I hate that nickname so much like fucking hell I’m not 10 anymore.
We sit in silence for the entire drive. We get back home and I go up to my room, leaving my guitar down stairs.
I put on a movie and then go downstairs to get a packet of chips. I go back upstairs and watch the movie.
Jinxx’s point of view-
“Andy what’s wrong with her being here? She’s not doing anything wrong.” I ask hastily as I grab some drinks out from the fridge.
“She’s 18,” Andy says.
“What does that have to do with anything? You’re 19, you’re not better.” I grab the cups down from the cupboard and then I hear a car pull up.
I walk into the lounge room and Jake, Ashley, CC but no Harper.
“I think she heard you Andy, she said to tell Jinxx that she was leaving. She said that she didn’t feel welcome.” CC explains. “She looked really upset.”
“Andy what’s your problem?” I ask looking at him.
“Hey, it’s not my fault that she didn’t feel welcome. Maybe it was something you said. Did you tell her that you’ve got a girlfriend?” Andy snaps.
“She’s a fan; I assumed that she already knew. Besides, all I did was teach her some basic stuff and get her started on a song.” I explain.
“When’s her next lesson?” Andy asks.
“Tomorrow at 4, she has school.”
“Well I’ll be sure that I’m not here at that time. She seems like a snob.” Andy says with venom in his voice.
“You don’t even know her and you’re calling her a snob. I’ve never seen you act like this, Andy what’s wrong with you today?” Ashley asks.
“Oh and you know her Ashley, you know every girl. That’s why you’ve slept with half the girls here right.” Andy laughed.
The room went dead silent.
“Can we just watch the fucking movie please?” CC asks. “And where is my popcorn?”
Well he has a point. Andy sits on the couch, I sit next to CC’s fort and Ashley and Jake sit on the floor. The movie begins and then there’s a knock on the door. My heart skips a beat. Maybe she’s come back. I go and answer the door to see Sammi standing there.
“Hey Sammi, I missed you.” I smile kissing her nose.
“I missed you too.” She smiles back.
Sammi says hi to the guys and then we go back to watching the movie.
