Unbroken

Youth and Whiskey

I groaned again as I picked up my phone to see Andy's name across the screen. Within the past week, I hadn't seen or talked to the lead singer of Black Veil brides. He had sent me twenty texts (all asking if something happened at the benefit to make me leave) then he had left a few voicemails when I ignored his calls and just sat and listened to 'Blow Me (One Last Kiss)' by Pink play from my phone. His voicemails asked exactly what the texts said, sometimes more. Like 'if I was angry with him' or ' am I sick?".

I wanted to answer, hang out with him, TALK... but the looming thought of what I was hopelessly getting myself into dragged me away from answering the phone, replying to the texts, or just calling or texting him myself. He even came by the house at one point, my dad being the watch-dog and not letting him in. It confused Andy even more. He didn't do anything... directly.

I was too confused and nervous. The summer needed to end. As soon as I got back home, with Mom ad Jaxon, my life would go back to normal and everything would be perfectly fine. Sure, the Andy thing happened but I’m good at acting as if things hadn't. I had to pretend my dad didn't leave and I could do this. I'm sure of it.

Suddenly my bedroom door opened, my dad came in carrying a McDonald’s bag and a large sweet tea. He sat it down beside me and the he sat by me on the bed. I sat up and wrapped my arms around his waist. He hugged me back. I needed this. Over the past week, he had been great. He defiantly was showing me he loved me and right now I needed major comfort.

He kissed the top of my head. "I brought you your favorite from McDonalds. I had to call your mom and ask what you liked but... I did what I could do."

I let go of him and smiled. "Thanks, Dad. It's great. I know your trying and I appreciate that more than I did." He nodded and got up, leaving me to eat my food in peace. I pulled the fries, quarter pounder and apple pie from the bag and added ketchup and salt to my burger and dug in, drinking my tea every now and then until I had finished completely. I got up and gathered all of it up and took it into the kitchen and threw away my trash.

I said a quick 'hey' to my dad and his friend, Clark that hung around allot. They waved back but Clark stopped me. "Ronnie, you know my daughter, Addison?"

I nodded. "Yeah. Sure, we met last week when you brought her over."

"Yeah, she said she liked you and she wanted me to ask you if you wanted to go shopping or whatever girls do later this week. Since you don't really have anyone to talk to that is."

I nodded quickly, adding a smile. Even though I don't know here, a day off would be great! "Yeah, sure. Tell her to give me a call about when she wants to go. A day away would be great!" He nodded and agreed. I walked back upstairs, happy I have something to think about other than Andy.

For the next few hours I read some of my book, watched a movie and listened to some music (NOT BLACK VEIL BRIDES) and I took a nap. After I woke up it was late. Pitch black inside and out of my room. I rose my head up slowly and looked the digital clock beside my bed. It said two in the morning.

I got up and went to the bathroom and when I came back my phone was lit up. I groaned. "Not now, Andy." I said, talking to myself. I walked over, almost afraid to look at the screen and see his name. When I looked it wasn't Andy's name on my screen at this ungodly hour.

It was Jaxon's.

I quickly picked up and choked out a 'hello'.

"Hey, baby. Did I wake you up? I didn't know what time it was over there."

"Nah, Jax'. Don't worry about it. What's going on?"

I could almost see his smile. "You’re asking me that. Really? It's miserable over here without you. I would give anything to come and see you or spend the rest of the summer with you. I'm going crazy over here."

I knew what I had to do, what could get Andy off of my mind and get him to leave me alone! It would work out, Dad wouldn't mind! I breathed in the out and finally spoke. "Jaxon, why don't you?"

"What do you mean, Rons?" He seemed confused.

"Come to California."
