Only a Memory

Juliet and I are driving to Ashley’s house when Cut Throat Vixen’s song Better This Way comes on KROQ. I just sigh as Juliet turns it up a bit and taps along to the beat. “You’ve got to admit, she’s an amazing vocalist and lyricist.” She loudly says over the music. Another sigh escapes my lips as I turn it down, earning a look from Juliet. “What’s wrong babe?” she asks. “You’ve been acting weirdly since you came home last night. Did something happen between you and Anna?”

“No, nothing happened.” I quickly reply, earning another look from Juliet. “I’m not lying. Nothing happened. I’m just not in the mood for music.” Juliet just sighs before turning off the radio and we continue the drive in silence.

We finally get to Ashley’s house and see that basically everyone is there, including everyone in Cut Throat Vixen. I sigh to myself as I watch Juliet head over to Sammi and Carrie. I walk over to Ashley and CC and see Annabel sitting on CC’s lap as they laugh about something. I don’t know why but I feel my muscles tension up. I just shake my head before heading over to get a beer. I wasn’t jealous of CC, he can have her.

I’m sitting around, zoning out when I feel someone sit next to me. I turn my head to the left and see Ashley sitting next to me. “You ok man?” he asks. “You’ve been acting weirdly since that talk last night.”

“How can I tell Juliet that Anna and I had something?” I whisper so no one but Ashley hears me. “How can I tell her Anna was the only girl I ever cried over?”

“You actually cried when Anna broke up with you?” He asks with a shocked tone in his voice.

“Don’t act so surprised.” I mutter.

He lets out a sigh. “You’ve got to tell her. It’ll be better for you, Juliet and Anna.”

“Anna already told me that.” I mutter once more. “It’s easier said than done.” I look over at Annabel who’s laughing her ass off with CC and Lizzy. I couldn’t help but to feel jealous once more.

“You still love her don’t you?” Ashley asks me. I glance over at him and sigh. “I’ll take that sigh as a yes.”

“I don’t know what to do.” I sigh as I bury my face in my hands.

“You know exactly what to do but you’re too afraid to do it.” He counters. “You’ve got to tell Anna and Juliet how you feel, even if it means breaking one of their hearts…”
