Remember
from all of this mistreatment
Riktor opens the door, startling me from my thoughts. I pull the book away from my face, watching as he cautiously enters my bedroom fully. My teeth pull my lip into my mouth, nervous of the conversation I know we are about to have, but somehow a smile pushes itself to cover my lips instead. Welcoming Riktor with open arms as no matter what goes on between us, he is my best friend; he is far more than just family to me.
Riktor walks over, taking a seat next to me on my bed as he eyes the book I set aside. “What happened in the dream?” he asks, finally bringing his eyes up to meet mine. I nibble softly on my lip, unsure of how to explain to him that nothing pleasant happened in the dreams.
“How do you figure something is wrong?” I ask instead. He gives me a look, one that lets me know he knows I'm stalling, but instead of backing down, I smiling innocently at him. I am truly curious of how he knew something bad had happened. How could he have possibly known? He doesn't hold a subscription to my blog.. I don't think.
“You're reading Harry Potter,” he says, pointing to the novel I pushed aside. “You only read the series when you're upset, Addi. What's wrong?”
Taking in a deep breath, I speak everything. Telling Riktor of my fears toward letting Andy in once more to the dream I had. Talking about the feelings that I try to keep buried deep within my mind. Riktor now knows of Andy completely taking hold of my heart, and my biggest fear of giving it off to anyone else.
At the end of my speaking, Riktor pulls me into a hug, holding me tightly to him. “If I would have known...” he trails off, frightening me a bit at the tone in his voice. My teeth once more take my bottom lip hostage as my nerves run haywire.
“What?” I ask, watching his face for any sort of reaction. Riktor's phone rings, he answers with a 'Hello' before I'm able to get a response. Throughout the whole phone conversation, I know he's talking about me. He's keeping his voice low and continues to spare glances my way. He's hiding something, I think, narrowing my eyes at him. What is he hiding?
